Carlton Palmer doubts Okay Yokuslu will return to West Brom

Former West Brom midfielder Carlton Palmer cannot see Celta Vigo’s Okay Yokuslu returning to The Hawthorns amid Premier League interest.

Yokuslu spent the second half of last season on loan at West Brom and impressed despite the Midlands club’s relegation to the Championship.

The 27-year-old added some real steel to Big Sam’s midfield, recording an average of 2.4 tackles and 2.2 interceptions per game in the Premier League (via WhoScored). When it came to the latter, no West Brom player had a higher average.

Understandably, Yokuslu is now being linked with a return to the Baggies. However, according to AS, Watford are also trying to sign the Turkey international, a claim backed up by a recent report from The Athletic.

Bearing that in mind, Palmer is finding a second spell at his old side hard to imagine. On Yokuslu, the retired England international told FFC:

“I doubt he’ll go to West Brom. You know, you want to play in the Premier League, that’s what it’s all about. That’s the level you want to play if you can.

“I think it’d be very unlikely that West Brom could afford his salary in the Championship anyhow, but obviously from the player’s point of view, he’ll want to play in the highest league that he can.”

Based on what he showed in the previous campaign, Yokuslu would be a great signing for West Brom.

But with a Premier League side like Watford showing interest, it is going to be hard for them to secure his services once again.
