Manchester United have confirmed they have begun work to add 6,000 safe standing seats at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are planning on building a new £2 billion stadium but for the time being, the club are thinking about the here and now. The Premier League giants hope that this short-term changes will improve the atmosphere at their iconic home.
Man Utd begin safe standing works
The club have said that they have started work on a 'significant expansion' of rail seating in tier two of the Stretford End. This will double the current provision of safe standing inside United's ground. The Red Devils state that this installation will be completed by the end of October.

While this is happening, United are planning to build a new £2bn stadium, with as many as 100,000 seats – something that Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to see become the ‘Wembley of the North’. But those plans are a way off from becoming reality.
Patience required from Man Utd fans
The club states that the first phase of seats will be in place for the visit of Sunderland at the start of October. However, the section will remain licensed as seated for that game until the installation is completed and formally approved by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA).
