NFL legend Brady, who is now an investor at St Andrew’s, was among those in attendance for a Championship fixture in the West Midlands on Saturday. There was little for him to get excited about as the Blues played out a disappointing 0-0 draw.

Rooney has picked up just one win from his eight games in charge of Birmingham, with the club slipping out of the second tier play-off places and into the bottom-half of the table during his tenure. More is expected as ambitious plans for the future are drawn up, and the Manchester United icon admits that he is hoping to freshen up his squad in upcoming transfer windows.

WHAT ROONEY SAID

Rooney has said, with Brady and the Blues board preparing to do all they can to help recruitment of better players: “Within the next six months, I hope there will be changes. You want to bring players in, players will leave the club. It’s important we don’t get carried away, we have got a lot of good players.”

Rooney added on Birmingham not being good enough to play the way that they want at the moment – with his side eager to work their way out from the back: “I had this conversation with the players early on and we decided it’s not something we’re going to overdo. When you talk about game management, of course if it’s on and there’s space to do it, then we do it. If it’s not on and teams are pressing us, we’re not at a level where we’re good enough to do that. Sometimes players make decisions and we get caught. We don’t look comfortable at all. What we have been working on is trying to play in the opposition’s half and play more there. That was a frustration. We could have conceded a goal or got a player sent off from being sloppy. There was two or three moments where we gave them good opportunities.”

Three of Birmingham’s next four games will see them head out on the road – starting in Friday’s short trip to Coventry – and Rooney will be eager to deliver an upturn in fortune before Brady decides to cross the Atlantic once more for another taste of the live Blues experience.
